What ASVAB Score Do I Need To Get Into The Air Force?

After taking the ASVAB test you will be given a AFQT score, which is an overall score computed from the different sections of the ASVAB test. In order to qualify for the Air Force a minimum AFQT score of 36 must be met for high school graduates or high school seniors that will graduate soon. If you did not graduate from high school but have a GED the minimum AFQT score to enlist in the Air Force is 65.

Air Force officers do not need to take the ASVAB, however they must pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT), which is similar in structure to the SAT test.

What is the AFOQT test?

As mentioned before, this test is mandatory for all individuals who are looking at becoming an officer in the Air Force. The letters stand for Air Force Officer Qualifying Test, and this aptitude test is quite similar to the ACT or SAT that students will tend to take at the high school level.

This test is more comprehensive that the ASVAB, as it involves 12 sections and only 210 minutes to complete the test. While only a small number of prospective officers pass this test and move into an officer position, it’s still important to get a handle on how the test works and why it’s required. The results of this test will determine whether an applicant will be placed in OTS (Officer Training School) or Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps).

It’s important to note that those taking the test are required to complete all sections of the test even if they’ve already completed the portion for their position of choice. Also important to know is that the test can only be taken twice, and those who fail the first time must wait six months until they can take the test again.

The score that you earn for the AFOQT test does not have a date of expiration. Should you take this test more than once, only the most recent score will be counted when.

There are a number of online practice test repositories for the AFOQT test. This collection is a paid service (about $5 for each practice) that will adequately prepare anyone who is looking to become an officer in the Air Force. There are also a number of books that you can check out at your local library that should adequately prepare you for the test.

Regardless of whichever branch of the military you’re planning on entering into, you’ll have to take the ASVAB test. For those who are looking toward becoming an officer, the AFOQT test will prepare applicants for a higher position in this country’s Air Force.

Just like any other test you might take, it’s important that those who are entering the military be as prepared as possible. When you consider that the AFOQT test can only be taken a total of two times, it’s especially important that you take advantage of all of the resources that are available to you. This way you’ll be that much more likely to be among the minority of people who pass these tests and move on into an officer position in the Air Force.
